A Slobber & Chops Ingredients Guide

We believe that every dog deserves a healthy dog food. So when it comes to our ingredients we take it seriously. By Identifying key functional ingredients we can be sure every Slobber & Chops meal is complete, balanced and packed full of tasty goodness!

So what is a functional ingredient?

Functional ingredients might include fruits, vegetables, herbs, dietary supplements, probiotics and prebiotics. They have been identified as 'functional' because they provide health benefits beyond the provision of essential nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, water, proteins, carbohydrates and fats.

Land-Based Protein Sources:

Chicken is a lean protein rich with essential amino acids, selenium, iron, zinc and B Vitamins which help contribute to overall health and well-being.

Turkey is a rich source of protein and amino acids. It is a lean white meat which is low in fat and helps to promote lean muscle development. It is also a good source of phosphorous and Vitamin B12, niacin & Vitamin B6.

Duck is a lean, nutrient-dense source of protein and nutrients such as iron, selenium, B Vitamins and zinc which contribute towards general health and wellbeing.


Angus
 Beef is a high quality, highly palatable source of protein a source of iron, phosphorus, selenium and zinc. Beef is a source of B Vitamins and is also the only animal protein to contain all 9 of the essential amino acids.

Pork is a good source of protein which also provides vitamins important for general health and well-being including thiamin, niacin, riboflavin and Vitamin B6.

Lamb is a nutrient-dense, highly digestible protein source. It is also a good source of Vitamin B12 and iron which are required to help keep nerve and blood cells healthy.

Venison is a high-quality, lean protein that is nutrient-dense, rich in iron, B Vitamins and low in sodium.



Water-Sourced Proteins:

Salmon is rich in Omega-3, DHA, EPA, Protein and B Vitamins it offers great support for everyday health and well-being. Omega 3 essential fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties and provide support for skin and coat conditions.

Tuna is a good protein source and an excellent source of selenium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium and potassium as well as Vitamins B6 and B12. It also contains Vitamin D required for daily functioning and bone growth.

Trout is highly digestible, and palatable and contains essential amino acids. Omega 3, EPA, and DHA support the immune system.

Haddock is seen to be a responsible and sustainable source of protein, high in B3 and B6 Vitamins.

Blue Whiting is a native of the North Atlantic, Blue Whiting is a novel and sustainable catch. It is a lean protein source, rich in omega-3 and nutrients.


Botanicals, Fruits & Vegetables:

Apple is a rich source of antioxidants. Apple is a source of soluble fibre, which acts as a food source for healthy bacteria within the digestive tract which aids digestion. Apples are also great for weight management as they have a low energy density and the fibre they deliver helps animals to feel fuller for longer.

Asparagus is a source of Vitamin K which plays a role in heart health, bone density, and dental health. It’s rich in folic acid which helps in the production of red blood cells and contributes to overall heart health. Asparagus may also help to lower cholesterol. Asparagus contains Aspartic Acid and a high amount of potassium making it act as a natural diuretic which means that it promotes urination. Asparagus is thought to help promote urinary tract health and prevent infections. Asparagus is also a good source of fibre which aids with digestion by helping food to move through the gut and is also high in B Vitamins which have a range of benefits but are especially important for aiding metabolism.

Beet Pulp is a by-product of the sugar beet industry, we extract the fibrous component of the sugar beet, eliminating the sugar and harvesting the fibre. Fibre is beneficial to pets. The main benefits of beet pulp are it helps to promote gastrointestinal movement and encourages the production of small firm stools.

Botanicals & Herbs are used in all the Slobber & Chops Dog food rages, In addition to Mint, Parsley & Rosemary we also use Thyme, Marjoram, Oregano, Parsley, and Sage in some of our foods as they are all sources for a range of vitamins and minerals. Others like Rosemary and Oregano are high in antioxidants or are natural preservatives that help your dog food stay fresher and tastier for longer!

Broccoli is high in fibre and is a good source of many vitamins and minerals, including potassium, calcium, and Vitamin C. Broccoli can support the immune system. Vitamin B, Folic Acid, is a good source of fibre.

Carrots are known for being a good source of Vitamin A in the form of beta-carotene which helps support eye health and vision. A good source of antioxidants which can support immune health. Carrots can help support oral health with antibacterial qualities and they can help support cognitive function. Carrots are also a good source of antioxidants, which can help support immune health and help to support oral health.

 

Cranberries are packed with Vitamins C, E and K, dietary fibre & manganese. Cranberries have a high content of Vitamin C and antimicrobial properties. In medicine, cranberries can be applied to treat bladder and kidney infections.

 

Sweet Potato is an excellent alternative to grains and with multiple health benefits, we use sweet potatoes in every Slobber & Chops Dog Food recipe. A complex carbohydrate with a lower glycaemic index to slowly releases energy throughout the day. Sweet Potato provides great sources of easily digestible carbohydrate sources for energy as well as B Vitamins and Minerals.
